The Art and Business of Surface Pattern design course

One of my best findings of last year was the fantastic course created for 2 talented and inspirational woman's Rachel Taylor  and Beth Nicholls.

The Art and Business of Surface Pattern design course opened more horizons in my design carreer gave me the confidence to believe in my own style and provided me with tools and knowledge to compliment my 5 year Graphic and Textiles design college degree and my work experience designing prints for textiles.

After a career change from the business side of textiles I returned to do what I loved the most and also made my dream come true, In 2011 I started just designing in my kitchen table , bought lots of paper, undusted my paints and brushes and started, with no info , no trend briefs, just with feeling and lots of expectations.

I presented my studio and my first collection last september in Indigo -PV Paris. In the show  realized that the industry had changed in a way I was not prepared. The hand-painted designs disappeared from the children section, everyone was designing digitally.
Ooopsss  I learned few computer tricks in school, but I had not enough basis to create a design in a digital way.  I learned in the hard way I needed to update myself.
I still had a good show for a first timer, meet lots of people, get customers, and got lots of inspiration but for me was not enough.

I enrolled to The Art and Business of Surface design course and it has been a great investment, I learned a lot, got the insights of very relevant and extremely talented  people in the industry, I got  lots of inspiration and confidence and realized that there is endless possibilities for my "new" career.
I also had the opportunity to meet so many talented designers and now I even will have the opportunity to collaborate with some of them as guest designers in the autumn 13/winter 14 collection we will present in Indigo.

I highly recommend this course to whomever wants to start the adventure in the Surface pattern design world. After this great course I feel way more prepared and inspired for my next appearance in Indigo PV this next september. Paris.... Here we go!!!

Big thanks and lots of love  to Rachel & Beth!!!

Believe Creative Studio to Indigo A/W 13/14

Exhibiting  in Indigo-PV  was a life dream and for second time is a reality.
Last year  was the first time I came to Indigo in Paris as exhibitor, it was a super experience of course with the good and the bad to be a first timer, but I realized how much I enjoyed the experience.
This time I feel way more prepared. Last year I jumped without too much thinking and it was good because I did it with lots of expectations and little fear.
I made every single design by hand and during the show I realized I needed to get into technology.

Lots of customers from the children market were interested in my work but they were also asking for design that facilitate the printing process they wanted layered files and designs ready to print.
So I had one year to prepare myself, to learn to design in the computer , which to me is a completely different process from working with ink and brushes.
I have to say I am still learning to enjoy the digital process and thanks to the course of the Art and Business of surface pattern designing now I got the skills to combine both worlds.

This time I also will be honored to have talented guest designers joining Believe creative studio collection.
Stay tuned because later on I will introduce them all of them, they are really talented and enthusiastic.
For now I have tons of work to do. Luckily I love my job and I am enjoying every part of it.
This year during my show I am also celebrating my 40th Birthday on september 20 !
What a better excuse to enjoy my day selling a lots of designs and seeing my work in Paris, my favorite city!
I will be sharing the process with all of you, hoping you share our excitement and expectations!

We just  had our booth assigned is:  5U49!!

You can always go the beginning of the hop and pop over to Claire Smillie lovely blog, she is a great designer and a very enthusiastic person, who by the way, organized this fabulous bloghop gathering 26 designers around the world!
We all were part of the amazing The art and business of Surface pattern design e-course featuring Rachael Taylor and organized by Beth Nicholls two amazing womans and profesionals.
I highly recommend this course to anyone that want to learn the fantastic path about Surface Pattern design.

" My passion for pattern started long time ago, I was lucky to know soon in my life that I wanted to be a designer, when I was college studying graphic design and I touched lots of design disciplines, I knew I wanted to do textile design and specifically design for printed fabrics.
My life changed when I was the lucky winner of a Textile design contest in 1995 in my late days of university.
I was so happy! I got to see for first time 3 of my designs being produced in fabric, I got some money, an appearance in an important newspaper in Mexico(my home country) and a glass trophy that is proudly displayed in my design studio, but there were two  very important life prizes that contest gave, the first one was  to have my friends and family together celebrating with me and that memory will stick with me all my life, and the second was that from that moment  I got the confidence and the assurance that Textile design is what I wanted and meant to do in life.
It was the starting point of my career as a textile designer!!

After the contest, a Design of printed fabrics teacher offered me a job in one of the most important textile companies in Mexico, and since then I never left this profession.
I got some detours after having the itch to learn about the business side of textiles. I had lots of fun learning about the reality of doing business, I traveled a lot, I meet fantastic and talented people, I worked for powerful brands , I moved as expat to 2 different countries and not matter what, I knew one day I will finally do what I loved the most! To design prints!
I had to pass some not very nice experiences and a bit of dark time to get the courage to follow my dream.
I got the support of my family and friends and of course of my soulmate and husband Vincent ,to reach my star and together we founded Believe creative studio, and here we are! After one year we opened our business, we are exhibiting in the most important pattern design show in the world: Indigo-PV in Paris, and this year my work was also for first time exhibited by my agent in Surtex in New York

Dreams come true, you just have to believe on it and mostly believe in your self... whatever is your dream follow it and do what you love to do!
